SMS Consent Policy
Last Updated: September 17, 2026
Your ABA therapy practice sends SMS/text message communications using the StreamABA platform. This policy describes how your practice collects consent for these messages and how you can manage your preferences.
1. Who Receives SMS Messages
Your ABA therapy practice sends SMS messages to guardians and caregivers of clients receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy services. Messages are sent by the practice through the StreamABA platform.
2. Types of Messages
Your practice may send the following types of SMS messages:
- Appointment Reminders: Notifications about upcoming therapy appointments, including date, time, location, and therapist information.
- Appointment Confirmations: Confirmation of scheduled or rescheduled sessions.
- Schedule Changes: Notifications when a session has been rescheduled or cancelled.
- Document Signature Requests: Alerts when documents require your signature, with a link to sign electronically.
- Communication Notifications: Alerts when new messages are available in the Family Portal from your child's care team.
3. How Consent is Collected
Consent for SMS communications is collected through the methods below. Each requires an explicit, separate opt-in before any messages are sent, and none is a condition of submitting a form or receiving services.
Online Inquiry Form
A practice's online inquiry form includes an optional, unchecked SMS consent checkbox. The form can be submitted without it; leaving it unchecked records an opt-out so no text messages are sent. The checkbox displays the following disclosure:
I agree to receive text messages from [Practice Name] at the phone number provided about my inquiry and, if I become a client, appointment reminders and account notifications. Consent is not a condition of receiving services. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and SMS Terms.
The form is branded with the practice's name and logo, clearly identifying the sender. Below is the full inquiry form as it appears to guardians:

Family Portal
Enrolled guardians manage their own SMS consent in the practice's Family Portal (behind their login) with an optional "Text message notifications" setting that is off until they turn it on. The setting shows the practice's consent disclosure (message types, frequency, rates, STOP and HELP instructions, and links to the practice's Privacy Policy and SMS Terms). Each change is recorded with a timestamp and source.
In-App Consent Management
Practice staff can also record and manage SMS consent for each guardian within the StreamABA platform. Each guardian has an individual consent toggle that controls whether they receive SMS messages. Consent status changes are timestamped and auditable.
4. Consent Disclosure Language
All SMS consent collection includes the following CTIA-required disclosures:
Brand identification: The practice name is displayed on the form and included in every SMS message.
Message frequency: "Message frequency varies."
Rates: "Msg & data rates may apply."
Not a condition of service: "Consent is not a condition of receiving services."
Opt-out: "Reply STOP to cancel."
Help: "Reply HELP for help."
